School Groups
Mission: To break the intergenerational cycle of familial chemical dependency
Outcome Objectives:
• Increase in perceived social support
• Decrease in feelings of shame, guilt, self-blame, and hopelessness
• Increase in healthy coping skills
• Increase in knowledge about the manifestations, biological basis, and consequences of addiction
Focus: Education/therapeutic support groups
Target Population: Children growing up in chemically dependent families
Ages: Children ages 5-13
Structure: Two ten-week cycles per school year
Groups: Closed, structured, age appropriate, developmentally appropriate
Curriculum: The Children’s Place Program
Facilitators: MFT trainees/interns
Schools: John Gill, Taft, Hoover, Fair Oaks, Roosevelt, Hawes, Adelante, Garfield
